Oh, mine HAD a battery. (I xpect yours did too.) It was just unable to
take and hold a charge. My four banger was duck soup easy, but a six
holer was a lot meaner to crank fast enough to make sparks. (I also had
a '36) Six volt batteries cost nearly 15 bucks in those days. Gas was
23 cents....
