| subject: | Consistent connects with cheapie modems |
R> BTW, I now have a USR Sportster too, and I get consistent 33600 connects R> with R> that to my upstream internet provider every single time. R> I'm interested in the wide variation of success that people have had with R> higher speed connects, such as 28800 or 33600. I'm in an inner city R> suburb, R> about 4km north of Melbourne city, and the exchange is about 1km away. R> Cheers. R> PS. Does anyone know how to get the USR Sportster to recognise Australian R> busy, R> and not detect Australian ring as busy? :-( It is all in the ROM version that you are running and the type of exchange that you are connected to. A couple years ago I tested my USR on the 2 lines available to me where I was living, SAME ROM CODE 2 different results, then I gave the modem to Bill and Randall and different times (same ROM) and they came up with different results again. It seems there are at least 3 different types of equipment in exchanges and this combined with your particular ROM code results in::: 1. STD, Busy And Ring detected correctly 2. STD taken as Busy, Busy and Ring detected correctly 3. Busy not detected but Ring is. 4. Ring not detected but busy is. 5. STD, Busy And Ring all detected correctlty... but hit and miss Russell --- Terminate 4.00/Pro* Origin: Electron Migration (3:640/305.55) SEEN-BY: 50/99 54/99 620/243 623/630 640/201 206 230 305 306 311 702 820 821 SEEN-BY: 640/822 823 829 711/401 410 413 430 808 809 899 932 934 712/311 407 SEEN-BY: 712/505 506 517 623 624 628 704 841 888 713/317 772/20 800/1 @PATH: 640/305 820 712/624 711/808 934 |
