Please enlighten me, if you will.

Here in Auckland, NZ, we have sub-cultures based loosely on area 
and on race that actively emulate `Ebonic' behaviour and artifacts 
- as portrayed by our broadcast media in association with pop 
music and similar programmes.

Such emulations horrify community leaders, intrigue the curious 
and sell a lot of clothing and gear;  they also serve to 
stereotype some unfortunate sections of our society who engage in 
nefarious activities. 

As it is culturally foreign to 99% of those who populate NZ, I'd 
be most interested in any non-media exposition of whatever 
actually lies behind the glorifications and put-downs.
