Yes King's earlier works are his best works....My favourite in this order are 
The Stand, Salem's Lot, The Shining and Dead Zone...The Salem's Lot 
mini-series wasn't that bad but it was made in the latter part of the 
sevenites and it stayed true to the novel... 
 
But it made for scary television...and I had hoped that King would redo this 
movie so that it was more scarier and kept the cute stuff out of this one!
