Unfortunately, it's an advertising supplement.  But Consumer Reports
also ran an article on the same subject in its Dec. 1997 issue (it's
the cover story).
BTW, did you just receive your Dec. Popular Mechanics?  Because the
Jan. 1998 issue came out about a week ago.
