CH>indicated a speeder passing him, (in a stationery position), he would
CH>have to accelerate to from 80-100 MPH to catch the speeder. Even this
CH>type of situation can create a hazard. I recall in Virginia one of
CH>their troopers took off in pursuit of a speeder. In the process, he
CH>lost control of his cruiser (at very high speed). He was charged
CH>and convicted of negligent homicide. Now thats a situation I'm very
CH>uncomfortable with.
One work around for that is radar enforcement teams. One guy runs the
stationary and radios the vech to the chase care which can then proceed
far more cautiously to stop the violator
Air speed timing (Which works the same way) is also neat.
One week here they put the plane over a section of the I-696 national
speedway and wrote 85 tickets, To get a ticket to the court room ball
you had to be doing at least 85mph and the top winner was doing 105.
That was Monday or Tuesday, On thursday they did it again, Different
aircraft (chopper instead of a plane) but the same stats, 85 tickets
ranging from 85 mph to 105, Care to bet the 105 was the same idiot?
