I would like to see if Windows will continue to handle DOS software as fast
as it currently does. I've heard NT can be slow on DOS programs, esp. for
communications. Since Memphis is heading towards NT's emulation of DOS/Win16,
I would assume it's handling of DOS programs will also suffer. Not good for
me.

I think they have made a major contribution. It's only because of Microsoft
that the IBM PC has survived the Macintosh. If MS didn't cover up the CLI
with fancy apps, the Mac with it's pitifully small number of apps (in the
beginning) would have eventually taken over.
JS> to WIN people, even after years of experience, it is striking how

When people are trained to "use computers" they are only trained to use
applications. They gain very generic technical knowledge (ie. what a CPU is
and all that). Nothing technical. Only the people with a genuine interest
in computers get to know them properly.
