Actually that training and re-training and more training is very
important as the suspect who may be considering shooting at you has
likely not been so well trained and he has to consider the value of
shooting at, and possibly missing, someone who not only can return the
fire, but is very unlikely to return the favor of the miss.
This can make it uncessary to fire
Carrying the proper gun can help too
We've had a few cases where people who'd shot it out (And lost) with the
city and their side arms many times gave up without a shot being fired
when looking down the 4'diamater (from their point of view) barrell of a
State Police 12ga Shot gun.
