| subject: | Re: Specifics on modem retraining |
Once apon a time David Drummond said, 'Re: Specifics on modem retraining' to Simon Byrnand... SB> Obviously both modems must agree to retraining, but that SB> doesnt necessarily imply that that is achieved by both users SB> having to enable the command for retraining manually at both SB> ends. DD> If one end has it disabled (automatically) then it ain't gunna work! Disabled in what way though? Disabled as in not MAKING retrain requests, or disabled in not ACCEPTING retrain requests. Thats where things get a bit ambiguous. DD> Some models of Rockwell based modems have retrain DISabled by default. DD> If another modem, with retrain enabled, requests a retrain from these DD> modems, they refuse it! The calling modem tends to hang up in DD> disgust. Yup, I know that, both the old Rockwell based modem in my BBS, and my previous Cirrus Logic based modem (now sold) had retraining disabled in the AT&F defaults. A bit braindead, really. (But then so is having &C0 :) Regards, Simon ...
