Hi Fred,
To do your maintenance release update is a pretty simple process:
- Start the editor (your current copy), and select Options / Full
Configuration
/ Write settings to ASCII file, and give it a file name (with a CFG
extension).
- Make a backup copy of your personal macros (.S and .MAC files), your
personal
UI, .DAT files, and the CFG we created above.
- Install the new copy of the editor over your current installation. (I
would
install the macros since there are most likely some updates in there...)
- Copy your files back into place that we backed up above.
- Edit your UI file, and select Macro / Compile. Repeat this process for the
.CFG file we created earlier.
That should do it. When you re-start the editor, you should be working with
your customized version. Of course, if you keep the editor in a different
location (ie, some people like to keep the e.exe in their util or bin
directory) you will need to copy the new one in there.
I follow a process similar* to this, and have written a batch file that
automates the process. I keep the batch file in my TSE directory, and make
it
a read-only file so I don't accidentally erase it.
* My process is not quite the same since I am frequently working with
in-house
versions that I need to do some other things to keep files from getting mixed
up. My re-install/update process takes 5-10 minutes: I have to zip up the
current copy, remove my .MAC and .EXE files, unzip the new version, re-build
200 macros, make several different versions of the editor, and a few other
things in the process...
