    I don't think you did go wrong. You asked the question and were pointed
in the right direction by those who knew the API better.

[If you remember the tales of Sherlock Holmes, you will also remember that
it is not always useful to clutter your mind with pettifogging details. 
Knowledge is of two kinds. You can know a thing or know where to find out
about the thing. Immediate utility determines which is best at any given
time. ]
