** - This modem can be upgraded to 33,600 by calling our BBS at
847-982-5092, and downloading the file DSVD-SDL.EXE.
X - These modems can be updated with 5/17/96 firmware but will need to
come in house to be upgraded. The firmware update will resolve the
     pause issue.
In order to obtain the latest firmware revision or get the modem in house for
a firmware update, please provide the information requested above in the SRO
Form and send it to any one listed service contact points. Once your message
is received, we will reply back to you with a SRO # and shipping
instructions.
SPECIAL NOTE: Some products do NOT have SOCKETED EPROM's, therefore the modem
will need to come in house to be updated. To check if your modem has a
SOCKETED EPROM, do the following:
Look on the modem, specifically the PC board, for a SQUARE BROWN socket
containing a small square chip. This chip normally contain the modems
Supervisor/EPROM date (seen in the Ati7 screen output) on a label which is on
the chip. If you only see SOLDERED chips, then the modem WILL have to come in
house to be updated.
To do the above process on an Internal modem you will need to remove the
modem from the CPU (Unless, the modem is visible). Be sure to have the
computer and all peripherals turned off when doing this and to take grounding
precautions.
To do this process with a external modem, you will have to remove the two
screws holding the cover together. Again, be sure to be careful not to touch
components and to be grounded when inspecting both internal and external
modem. If you are unsure if the modem has a SOLDERED or SOCKETED EPROM, you
may want to have a Customer Service Representative confirm what type of PC
Board your product has and what the appropriate repair method will be
necessary.
