Nemo's submarine used sodium-powered batteries for electricity, and said
sodium was extracted from the seawater.  The feasibility of this is
suspect, but the science was taken from the then-current theory. He also
liked to try to enlighten and educate the reader, so about half of 20,000
Leagues is a lecture on fish, with the 19th-century equivalent of Rain Man
classifying them...and a Canadian trying to eat them all.

Consider when it was written that one computer filled a small room, this
can't be held against him.  Aasimov's Multivac was a city unto itself,
stuffed with vaccuum tubes and relays.
