Subject: Political Comparrison
There have been several posts comparing Federation politics with the
political process at large, especially national election politics. Mr.
Gashel suggested to me that I make an effort to make positive suggestions
and contributions, and this suggestion has merit, so here goes.
The President of the United States is limited to two, (2), terms of
service, with total time not to exceed ten, (10) years. Many states have
established term limits for their elected officials. I there fore suggest
that the Federation consider and establish term limits for its national
officers and board members, and that state affiliates do likewise. This
would allow for new ideas and new blood to make it to the top of the
organization. It would allow the many gifted leaders and bright minds of
the organization to make even greater contributions. It would add new life
to the organization, and guarrentee a bright future. Political office
should not be a lifetime occupation for anyone. It has been said that
absolute power corrupts absolutely. The longer one stays in power, the
easier it becomes to lose perspective, and to forget the constituency that
helped you to get there. If term limits are wise for our elected
government officials, why not for our Federation elected officials?
