Binkleyterm has a way of doing this, and I use an MS-Kermit script for
inbound bbs calls and Binkleyterm function requests of the magic name
"STAT".

This script takes control of the modem by means of +++, sends an AT*ST0 and
a few carriage returns, then goes back online with ATO:

set port 2
output +++
input 2 OK
log session d:\call.new
write session \v(date) \v(time) \13\10
output AT*ST0\13
pause 1
output \13
pause 1
output q
input 1 OK
output ato\13
write session \v(date) \v(time) \13\10
quit
