 Have you tried Control Panel -> Modem -> Diagnostics yet? It could also

 be an interrupt conflict. I have my internal set up using Com 2 as I

 don't need that port for other devices. If you have your modem using

 Com 3 or 4 it can create conflicts. Try also Device Manager to see

 what it reports.
