Dear Vrrej:
        You are right marijuana is not addictive.  I know I smoked
it and quit cold turkey without any ill effects.  It did take about
a month for my mind to return to normal.  It causes a slowing
down of the thought processes and reflexes.  This is not subjective,
but can be researched as medical and scientific fact.  It causes
a state of false euphoria.  It numbs the mind in a way as other
drugs before and after it have done.  It is not an enhancer of
spiritual awareness, but an escape into an imaginary reality.
You can do the same thing with any means of escape whether
it be alcohol, drugs, sex, movies, sports or a myriad of other
events used for escape.  We have a multimillion dollar industry
in this country to prove it.
        However, escape has never solved a problem nor taught
a lesson, other than to stand up and work through the problem.
There are no short cuts.  It takes hard work to gain spiritual
ground.  The peace movement had very little to do with 
marijuana or LSD, I know I lived through that too.  I marched
on the front lines for civil rights.  The peace movement was about
love, the drugs were just a side path some took.  It was about
accepting yourself and accepting others.  It was the outward
beginning of  the raising of consciousness from selfish narrow
minded perspective into a more free and giving consciousness.
Don't confuse the two or tell others that there is spiritual aware-
ness from drugs.  
        I lost my first husband to marijuana.  Yes your not dangerous
and perfectly safe drug caused him to totally lose his mind.  The
doctor told him to quit smoking it because he was allergic to it.
He said that his next joint could take him over the edge, from
which he would never return and it did.  I lived through three
years of a living hell and then got out of the relationship.  He
has never recovered and that was over 20 years ago.  So much
for your safe wonderful drug.  Don't talk to me about medical
research, as I did plenty to find out what it was all about.
        Do I sound like this is a soap box of mine, yes it hit very
close to home.  I don't want anyone on this list to think that
this is a short cut and run out to try it.  Believe me it is not
a short cut.  I never had one bit of spiritual awareness or growth
from smoking it.  It numbed me and made me able to bear what
I was going through, which was also a cop out.  
        Some say it makes them feel good and they miss that feeling.
It did make me feel good, but it was a false sense of euphoria and
security.  I now "feel" good through meditation and am able to
deal with all that is around me.
