 Larry Monte's StarBar will do just what you want.  Not sure what
 the current version is, but it's probably on the Maximus homepage at
 www.oeonline.com/~garyg  or on Bob Juge's page at www.juge.com
 There are other similar file listers but StarBar is the only one
 I ever got to work, and both I and my users like it.  :)
 Larry also made StarArea which does something similar for your
 message areas.
