That doesn't sound good; you should definitely replace the driver.
The 250 per side that I used to put to the 6s was 250 *very clean*
watts at 8 ohms, and I built the amp myself, so I knew where the
clipping point was, and never approached it. Clean high power is
much safer than clipping low power. Take care.
