Well, doh! I'll have to try this later, as I'm at home right now for lunch,
but even my simple minded understanding of things should have told me to do
this.

However, I'll probably take a more serious look at all of this sometime
next week, since I'm getting all four wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow morning
and probably won't be at my mental best for a little while... Darn it, I
just blew my excuse : "Yeah, that's it - I just
/had/ my wisdom teeth pulled and am not thinking too clearly..." I'm
afraid I'd be toothless before too long :-)

Actually, my simple implementation of banner (the version that does:

# # ####### # # #####
# # # # # # #
# # # # # # #
####### ##### # # # #
# # # # # # #
# # # # # # #
# # ####### ####### ####### #####

(since someone asked what 'version' of banner)

actually is a small bit faster using a bitmapped representation of the
characters, despite having to convert it to a string before printing...
however, it's a _very_ small amount faster.

Thanks for the input.
