2004 could be the last San Marino Grand Prix as new countries vie to host
events, and older circuits struggle to match the impressive facilities
boasted by new tracks such as Bahrain. Like Silverstone, home of the
British Grand Prix, Bernie Ecclestone wants Imola to undergo major upgrades
to guarantee its place on the calendar.

Italy currently has two races; as Monza is the home of the Italian Grand
Prix it is Imola that is first in line to be dropped from the schedule. As
it's one of Ferrari's home races, and as he is Ambassador for San Marino,
Michael Schumacher naturally wants the Imola race to stay.
