subject: modems for a BBS

JP> The only problem I've seen with the Roadsters is their annoying inability

I've seen this with SEVERAL Rockwell modems after V.34+ upgrades. The
problem seems to occur ONLY under the following conditions :

a) The V.34+ Rockwell modem is originating
b) The other end is any V.34+
c) The connection "was going to be" 33600bps

The interesting thing is that I've seen this exact same problem on modems
which although based on the R6682-26 datapump, do NOT use Rockwell
processors and hence don't have any shred of Rockwell's supervisor code in
them. So one might guess at a bug in 3429 symbol rate in this datapump. The
phenomenon is not limited to non-Rockwell outbounds either, so it's a real
bug, not an incompatibility. That's one of the reasons I'd like to know
what modems IBM uses; I can't get 33.6 to them (though I often get 31.2).
If I force 33.6 it hangs at the end of the handshake, always.

JP> Spirits are Rockwell-based? I always throught they were proprietary ...

I think they used to sell some AT&T (v.32t) units, but they moved to Rockwell.
