OK, maybe this set of connections didn't pan out
in any but the entertainment sense, but other
seemingly unconnectable connections no doubt have
borne fruit. Mr. Burke's focus was instruction by
amusement, so his examples no doubt were chosen
for that rather than any other purpose.

Kale apples with pickled raisins
categories: side, celebrity, vegan, pork
servings: 4

h- pickled raisins
2 c golden raisins
1 c water
1 c champagne vinegar
1/2 c sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 c spiced rum 
h - kale
1 bn kale, washed
1 Tb finely chopped shallot
2 Tb olive oil
2 Tb peeled, diced apple or tt
1 Tb pickled raisins
toasted pecans tt
2 Tb chopped cooked bacon, opt

For the pickled raisins - Bring everything to 
a boil except the raisins; simmer 3 min and 
pour over the raisins.

For the kale - Wash, dry, and rough chop
kale, discarding the thick parts of the stem. 
Saute over medium low heat with shallot and
olive oil until leaves begin to wilt. Add to 
the pan some diced apple, pickled raisins, 
some toasted pecans, and if you like 2 Tb 
chopped cooked bacon.
