subject: Scitec Modems

At the start of last year I got a 2400 Scitec Modem at a sale for $2 and
discovered that it was an old "dumb" modem which had to be
operated with switches on the front panel as it had no way to recognise AT
commands. Then, a few weeks ago I ended up with two more of the buggers,
which looked exactly the same, but which seem to be slightly hayes
compatible, accepting dialing commands and answering automatically. The
front of the modems have "intelligent V.22bis modem" written on
them so you'd expect them all to be hayes comp. They each have a bank of 8
switches on the back which seem to do different things among them such as
allowing the dtr to be controlled and such.

Any info on these modems especially about how to make the odd one hayes
compatible would help. But don't strain yourselves, who wants a 2400
anyway?
