subject: 2 Good Ones!!

I just finished two books. One was 'The Jewel That Was Ours', an
Inspector Morse by Colin Dexter. When I read the intro, I discovered
that it had been written using the plot used for one of the TV series
episodes. I have read other books written 'from the screenplay' before,
and had been usually disapointed. Not this time. This was more than
just a re-stated re-formatted script. It had more observations, mental
self-conversations, etc. than any such re-creation I ever had read
before. Will have to try another of his...
The other was Tony Hillerman's 'The Fallen Man'. Good book. Good
characters. Nice insight. And it finishes by distinguishing the
difference between 'law' and 'justice' as it applies in this case. Not
mere black and white, good vs evil, and the hero is pure standard fare.
Much better than his 'Finding Moon'. I can't say the complexity of the
story is up to his earlier efforts, but it has good characters, is
unpredictable, some nice red herrings, and good characters. Not bad.
