subject: Zoltrix 14k4 - help!

Dear Matthew,

Re your message

=> I have a Zoltrix 14k4 fax modem, and a small problem. As a general
=> rule, it's a fairly OK modem. So it dosn't have v42bis compression
=> and MNP 4,927, but it works. Other than one problem - it doesn't
=> want to recognise the busy and other tones. I've managed to track
=> the problem down to the `X' setting in the NVRAM - specifically,
=> the X1 setting I have set. This, according to a little book of
=> tricks I found a while ago, says the following:
etc. etc.

You did not say exactly which 14.4k Zoltrix you have. Some have NVRAM,
some ¨don't. So to be on the safe side - Change your software's modem
INIT string ¨to AT&FX1B0W2&C1&D2

That should be enough, but if you want to you can use ATX1DT as your DIAL
¨PREFIX (or ATX1DP if you use pulse dial).

If you are running under DOS use the BitCom software.

If you are running under Windows use the BitCom for Windows software AND SET
IT TO "RPI" NOT "HAYES". Remember to use SETUP from
the BitWare main menu to ¨set ADVANCED features to NOT DETECT DIAL TONE
(unselect Wait for Dialtone).

That should do it.

John (The Diamond Group)
