Parry-Thomas drives his Thomas Special to a one-mile speed record of
170.624 mph (1926).

The first customer Porsche 962 makes its race debut in the IMSA Camel GT
race at Riverside, California, USA. Al Holbert and Derek Bell drive it to
second place behind the "Blue Thunder" March-Chevy driven by
Randy Lanier and Bill Whittington (1984).

English open-wheel racer Darren Manning born (1975).

Three spectators are killed during the IRL race at the Charlotte Motor
Speedway when a wheel flies off a car during an accident and into the
