There are plenty of studies showing how the Famine affected the Irish and
how customs and practices dating back to the Famine are ingrained.  And the
Irish, especially in America DO tend to marry late

Protestants were affected, too -- but not so badly.  And people tend to
assimilate the values of their communities.  One need not be descended from
a Famine immigrant to be affected by it, if the family has lived among
Famine survivors and their descendants.
