For that many tracks, I believe you're looking at (at least) a Pentium
166-200, as much RAM as you can afford over 64M, a hard drive the size
of Texas, and backup media of death. There are also certain types of
hd's that perform better with digital audio. You also need to deep-six
any apps or TSR kinda thingies so the computer can devote its full
attention to recording.

all this at home.

It's overrated, especially in large amounts, but indispensible for
fast-food fries (catchup, that is).
