There is an advantage to having at least one fixed IP. IIRC Samba vastly
prefers, if not requires, a fixed IP to communicate properly with a windows
network. I'm sure it depends greatly on the hotel, but given it even has
internet connection available they might also have some kind of tech
support for those who need a fixed address. The other option is to use an
adaptor. I have heard about a few different kinds of adaptors that provide
wireless connection to existing nics and/or USB ports. Apparently these
are entirely cross-platform is what I've heard since they depend on a port
protocol. If your OpSys can communicate with the port, it can communicate
with this wireless adaptor much like external modems did/do with serial
ports.
