Hi, Sondra,
RA>Especially when somebody else doesn't come along and pave it over, put up
>a mall with chain stores and fast-food restaurants, and put a toxic waste
>dump next door.
SB> There have been those moments when I have gone back to a childhood
SB> forest, and discovered the infamous parking lot. Heck, there are
SB> those moments when I have taken my fourteen year old son back to one of
SB> *his* childhood forests, and have discovered an infamous parking lot.
It's happening faster and faster all the time. They took out the
sledding hill we used when I was in grade school and put in a four-lane
highway. They did it over the summer, so when we came back to school the
next year, we found we didn't have a place to sled anymore.
Then there are the things that make cutting down a forest for a strip
mall and parking lot tame. The new issue of the HONOR Digest has a brief
snippet about Wal-Mart wanting to put up on a new store on the site of 21
800 year old Native American graves just west of Nashville. That company
just doesn't seem to be getting the message. (:
Take care,
Robin
