DR> To me, the computer is wonderful for research (if you have a good CD
DR> ROM encyclopedia, for instance, or perhaps you can tie into the
DR> Internet in some way), and also for skill-and-drill in a pleasant way.

ard
DR> I'm not sure on the Science bit, except that the Magic School Bus
DR> programs are ALL rated quite highly. Our library system has the Outer
DR> Space and the Human Body programs on their computers.
DR> For US Social Studies, there are three that you "don't wanna miss".
DR> One is perfect for Jeremy now. Look on local boards for a program
DR> called GEOUSA. It's a Windoze (3.1) geography program that "tests"
DR> kids on locating the states, the major waterways of America, the state
DR> capitols, and the largest cities in each state. You can test all four
DR> at once, just one at a time, or a mixture of two or three. It's
DR> shareware and now on my list of programs to register as I get the
DR> cash. My husband even likes to play this one periodically, with the
DR> state capitols and largest cities built in. Another one is by
DR> Dinosoft. It's a geography CD ROM. My parents got it for the girls. It
DR> has states, state abbreviations, historical timelines, etc, all for
DR> the US. I'm not sure where my parents got it, but I'm sure it's not
DR> shareware. A third one is called the Oregon Trail. It's by MECC, I
DR> think. Our Target store carries it. Or find someone unloading an old
 DR> version - grin.
DR> For Math, look on a local board for something called Treasure Hunt
DR> Math. THMATH, I think it's usually abbreviated. It comes with two of
DR> the modules (addition and Subtraction?) built in. The rest you get
DR> when you register, which my parents did for us. We now have the full
DR> gamut. It's one of the girls' favorite programs.
 DR> Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. My friend gave me her Dinosoft. She doesn't need it
anymore so she turned it over to me. I have Treasure Hunt and stuff. Once
I told a few of my friends they are giving me programs they don't use anymore
so things are looking up.
Regina
... All I need is a Wave and a board to surf it on.
