I couldn't find "strouds" in the dictionary... although there is a 
town just south of Barrie by that name.  Could you mean "shrouds"... 
Yes, I call them "side stays" too, because that seems like a suitable 
description... we have fore stay, back stay so what's wrong with side 
stay?  
On second thought... We do have fore stays and back stays don't we? 
Those wires that keep the mast from falling down 8=D
