The mil has been a social program since there was a mil. I have 3 different
friends who joined the mil in the "trades" specifically coz
they'd come out as qualified engineers. Royal Signals, Army Air corps &
Royal Engineers.

Obviously the education you get depends of the branch you go into. In fact
thinking about it make it 4 coz a mate who's a nuke weapons person started
as a std sailor went into subs & ended up maintaining nuclear missiles
& then became quite an expert at things wot go pop in a big way etc.
