Hi - I have used Adaptec SCSI cards in my OS/2 + eCS system in the past
to use an external SCSI scanner. You obviously need to install the
correct drivers (I don't think support for some of the Adaptec cards
gets installed by default from an eCS build). It should be possible from
an IDE booting system to address a SCSI attached device - be it a
scanner or a harddisk from eCS.

Whether you can boot from a SCSI drive ahead of IDE drives depends upon
two factors. The main one being the system CMOS settings allowing you to
define the SCSI device as a boot device ahead of the IDE drives and the
other being the need to have BIOS on the Adaptec SCSI card. The cards
intended for supporting external scanners often did not have a BIOS on
them and hence could not be used to boot the system.

The important rule on SCSI devices has always been to ensure the SCSI
chain is terminated correctly. Now a days devices often have intelligent
termination but in some cases a jumper still needs to be put in the
correct place.

Since you have the SCSI drive visible in Windows, I preseume you have
gone into the SCSI card's BIOS settings at startup (usually via CTRL A
on Adaptec cards if I remember correctly) and checked that all looks set
OK ?

Cheers/2

Ed.
