At least the brochure exists. I was at a fire buff flea market, not that
I am a fire buff, but it's a good place to find patches, radio gear, and
other stuff as well. I stopped in at the booth of a radio dealer that a
friend of mine does a lot of business with, and he told me that he had
planned to have the radios by November 6, but RELM is delaying shipping
until the end of the month. He expects to have them in time for the
Christmas season, and his price is $299.99. The picture looks nice, and
the specs seem okay. It will do PL and DPL, scans at 100/second, has ten
priorities, weather, something called birdie lockout, 200 channels in 10
banks, search, search hold, and an LCD display. Lamp switch, too. It
will use AA batteries, or external AC or DC supplies. No case was shown
on the brochure, but that will come I am sure. All in all it looks like
a nice rig.
The last Regency scanners that I bought were the HX-1000/1200/1500
series, ten or more years ago. They were the best handhelds that I ever
used, including the BC 200. The best part was that they were built by
Santec, which at the time was making ham gear. If the HS-200 is made by
AOR, it could well be a great scanner.
The dealer had no word, had not even heard, of mobile versions of the
new radios.
I also stopped by a Uniden dealer and he knew exactly what I did about
the trunking tracker Uniden scanner. That is, it is supposed to be
introduced at the January CES in Vegas. No other information is
available.
I plan to get a HS-200 as soon as they are available. I was going to get
a FT-50R and use it as a scanner in addition to a ham radio, but I would
rather have a scanner only, since I already have a dual band walkie that
I like.
