I believe he's talking about the Vendor and Device ID's as reported on
the boot screen, not the MAC address strings reported by NICs...

Intel, for example, is 0x8086 for vendor ID, while the device ID would
identify which of their parts it was, and the Class ID (I think that's
what it's called) identifies the function of the part, such as "RAID
controller", "video card", or "USB hub".

Yeah, it's like pulling teeth.  I called them because their DGE-530T
card apparently used a certain chip which has OS/2 drivers... I was
transferred to four different techs before I got the answer I wanted...
and so, I picked up the part from my distributor... and found it had an
entirely DIFFERENT manufacturer's chip on it, and was NOT supported. 
Needless to say, I chalked it up to another case of poor communication
and customer service, then fired off a terse eMail to D-Link Reseller
Support to tell them off.
