Timing was good for you. At the time I wanted (needed) additional lines, I
had to pay over CAN$100 installation fee for each line!

I experienced a similar phenomenon. But my problems occured when I was
still with 14.4k modems! When I eventually upgraded to a 28.8k on one of my
lines, the matter was most intolerable when I detected HUM and buzzing noises
on the new lines 3 or 4 months after the installation. When I reported this
to Bell they ended up calling a technician to visit on-site. They found no
problem in the home. The technician was satisfied to tell me "that's the
best quality you can expect in this area". Eventually, they detected a
problem at the "pole" where the lines are spliced. The hum and buzz was
instantly corrected, but I still don't get 28.8k connections all the time.
I will get fine 28.8k connections occasionally when I call long-distance to
Montreal!
