| subject: | Re: I can see now |
From: "John Beamish" I was generally sceptical of laser surgery (and, as it turned out, so was my eye doctor). But over time, reading all the literature, I gradually changed my position. When I mentioned that I was more comfortable with the procedure to my eye doctor, she said that quite recently she, too, was now telling some patients they should consider it. We had a long discussion about pros and cons and, as she pointed out to me, my eyes were now in a situation where I would still have to wear glasses to read (which I do most of the day) so I'd still be wearing glasses after the surgery. In the end, I didn't get them done. A final thought: while it's true that the failure rate is well below 1%, if you're the person then the failure rate is 100%.
