One is oft reminded of Churchill's quote about America doing the right
thing when all other options have been eliminated.

It is quite a humorous piece if one reads twixt the lines.

e.g.

Nice attempt at spin. The real threat is still Sadr & Badr but the
dynamics of power are as ever "first secure your base" & in
that respect AQ are the first threat. Then they will have to "reach an
understanding with" Sadr & Badr (or preferably one which they can
play off t'other) e.g. :

"Last week the Awakening even sent envoys to Sadr City to meet with
followers of the militant Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. The two men share
some common objectives. Both present themselves as Iraqi nationalists who
do not favor a federalist solution to the country's sectarian problems, and
both are eager for provincial elections."


Chuckle......so try & split badr & sadr & thus the Shia grip on
their throats.

Nice to see old style politics coming back.
