I understand what you are saying, but these are not honest
mistakes.  Other things are deliberately being overlooked in
favor of the La. Center.  May Nelson has shown a total disregard
for the blind of this state and has been allowed to get by with
it because of the center and Mrs. Wilson's belief that the
center is her own personal property and that it should come
first.  Of course token attention is paid to other problems so
that their neglect will not look obvious to the casual observer
but it is happening.
Several years ago, a resolution was passed by the La. affiliate
supporting Mrs. Nelson in her attempts to reform the B.E.P.
Program.  But the truth is that there not has been no reform but
things are worse now than they were then.  Even councilors are
unhappy with the way the program is being run by its current
director Pat Bradshaw but nothing is being done.  Mrs. Nelson
could at least dismiss Mrs. Bradshaw who has the support of no
one except her puppets on our E.C.O. but she doesn't.  She could
look for a director who believes in blind people no matter what
their visual acuity may be but she doesn't.  Mrs. Nelson
continues to seize unassigned income whenever possible and
nothing is done.
And what about Mrs. Wilson stacking as many as 6 people in a
hotel room at the Washington Seminar.  One person I know of came
home sick a few ;years ago because she had to sleep on the floor
next to the air conditioner vent at that time of year and she got
worse afterwards.  I don't think top class dinners, expensive
suites and limos are called for, but is sleeping in a bed
unreasonable?  I don't think so.  This is not only a mistreatment
of people herding them into rooms like cattle but is a flagrant
abuse of the hotel's room rate structure which calls for no more
than 4 to a
room.  It certainly doesn't make us look good.
And when such trips are in order, it is usually Center connected
people who get any assistance if there is any to be had.
