What is Your Init String and S register Settings??

(At your terminal type AT&V and modem ( if it is turned on ;-) ) will dump 
all settings for you)

I used to have all sorts of problems - until I changed my init string

My Init String is:
AT &C0 &D2 E1 V1 X3 L3^M
you might want to ommit the L3 - this turns the speaker to full volume!!

the &C0 is probably the most important - it maintains an ON status for the 
Data Carrier Detect (DCD)

Make sure you write down your Current Init string before you change it
