| subject: | Hariri court....I can`t decide.... |
From: Ad If it's a good thing or not... Basically this does set a precedent & you know lawyers & judges etc. Once you open an are to the legal beagles then they'll pile in. I dislike all forms of state execution & as such I am ipso facto in favour of all states being held accountable for any executions however.... A) If this is Syria/Lebanon only it will be seen as simply a political gambit but... B) Would the big boys with the UNSC veto's really want to see judges etc investigating state sponsored assassination per se? i.e there have been lots of assassinations in the area inc by Mossad etc. Is a mossad car bomb different to a syrian one? How about African etc assassinations? How about CIA ones involving predators etc? Personally I would like to see an international court which investigates all state assassinations. i am curious to see if this will be the outcome given the precedent just as the holocaust/Nuremberg etc lead to the international crime of genocide & war crimes & thus to the ICC. So expand the ICC's remit to include all such actions by all states? That sounds good to me. If it's just this single event then most Arabs (& many others) will look on it as a political show trial for the West's / neo-colonialists's benefit (esp the US & France). E.g. are we going to see Israeli actions similarly investigated? If the US blocks such actions then it will confirm the suspicions of many. Is that the sound of a can of worms being opened?
