Thanks Steve
Darn! That's unfortunate since that helps almost not at all. In fact
it is a little confusing since I took that vendor/device string right from
the listing (from more than one location even) of supported hardware and
also from MPTS itself where it specifies "Genmac D-Link G520+"
and stroking "edit" displays the same vendor/device ID as in the
list.
My problem is that this model D-Link has gone through a chipset &
firmware revision. When installing the windows driver there is a huge
!STOP! !WARNING! (isn't doze incredibly dramatic hehehe) asking the user to
physically look at the card and identify which one is present since they
look quite different especially in label style but even in relative chipset
size and/or packaging.
OTOH in Linux the madwifi project supports both chipsets, does not
require user identification and is NOT a windows driver wrapper but rather
native linux code. In fact there is even a 64bit version for Linux but not
for windoze. Also obviously one can install from source regardless of
architecture, just dependant on compiler.
So because the OS/2 driver is a doze wrapper I don't yet know how to
proceed since none of the atheros based choices results in successful load
during config.sys's chores. Even that can be a little confusing since
still my system reports that it cannot load the usbmouse driver but yet the
usb mouse works. Removing the error producing line from config.sys results
in the mouse not working. I am not trying to solve that
"problem" or confuse this thread at all with that. I'm happy it
works and can deal w/ such a minor nuisance after more important things are
solved. I only mention it because it damages my trust in config error
messages. However I do not see any entries in "Hardware Mgr" for
the G520 or any other wifi device. So I'm just gathering info in hopes of
sussing this out a little before I go asking netlabs to please include my
wifi nic when it may work already but I'm simply ignorant of some detail.
Thanks again.
Jimmy
