PE> the aborted connects from a Supra modem (which had PE> no such trouble with the Spirit Thunder) have also been PE> reproduced on David Drummond's and Poe Lim's systems. DD> Mr Speed's Supra can only manage to connect here at 14,400. Yes, but thats normal given its a V32bis modem. DD> Can it hold a connect with any other V.FC or V34 modem? Yes, nothing like that seen with any VFC or V34 modem. Particularly the very characteristic symptom of a good fast modem to modem handshake, ALWAYS reliably getting the proper 14400 V42bis connect that its supposed to, my mailer sends its initial handshake stuff out, gets the usual burst of plain text back from the other mailer, THEN always shows on the front of the modem that the USR is demanding a retrain. 70% of the time it will get thru that fine and the mailers will handshake fine and carry on, 30% of the time I get continual receive and transmit errors indicated on the front of the modem and my mailer eventually times out the session handshake. Its quite possible that other V32bis callers to USR V34+s see the same mindless demand for a retrain just after the connect and dont have enough of a graphic display of that on the front of their modems to notice. --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/809 934 |
