Actually, they averaged closer to 70,000. The Cleveland fans were great - as
good as the pre-Irsay Colts fans. The problem was the 50 year old stadium,
and Art Modell felt the politicians took him for granted when they built a
new stadium for the Indians (who didn't draw flies) and a new arena for the
Cavaliers. So, he took the money and ran.
