On 02-19-98, ROBERT CRAFT declared to ROBERT PLETT:
RC> RP> I'll remind here as I have in another forum that Clinton's
RC> RP> impeachment is no more iffy right now than was Nixon's when
RC> RP> the DemonRats in Congress began the process against him. At
RC> RP> that point in time, the votes for impeachment weren't even
RC> RP> close to being in existence, nor was public sentiment in
RC> RP> favor of it. Neither of those facts deterred the DemonRats
RC> RP> for a second, and had Nixon not resigned, they would've
RC> RP> gotten the votes for impeachment.
RC>Unfortunately, your conclusion rests upon an unproven
RC>assumption: that the minority members members (Democrats)
RC>will eschew party loyalty in favor of constitutional duties
RC>as the minority party members (Republicans) did in Nixon's
RC>case. I'm not convinced that assumption will prove to be
RC>true.
I am. If the Repubs got off their cowardly behinds and made the case,
the DemonRats would get on board to get rid of him lest he harm their
party even more.
