The string of commands David was referring to was mentioned in the Dec
92 issue of Boardwatch magazine, which torqued USR, and they claimed
that they were revealing copyrighted firmware for mentioning it.
Unless the 14400 Sportster you're using was made in 1992, you'll
probably be out of luck trying to get the 16800 HST speed. But, just
in case you *do* have a fairly old Sportster, here's how to find out
if you can get the 16800 HST (don't worry, you won't damage anything
by doing this):
Go into your fave comm program, and type ATI7 (enter) to display
the ROM version. If it says SUPERVISOR 4.1, you *win*. If not (i.e.
the version is 4.2 or higher, stop here, don't get your hopes up.
If it *does* say SUPERVISOR 4.1, type ATGW03C6,22GW05CD,2F (enter).
Type ATI7 (enter) again. It should say OPTIONS HST,V32. Use the B1
command in your modem initialization string to activate the HST speed.
When you connect, you should get a 16800/ARQ message.
