Hi,
I cannot put my hand on the article, but late last year I stumbled onto a
overclocker site that reported on the same problem. The owner of the
board simply cut off the melted end of the charred wires, removed the
damaged pins on the motherboard and replaced them with longer and
larger diameter copper wires and then soldered the wires from the power
supply unit, directly to these new motherboard connections.
If I remember correctly, the idea was to use the new larger motherboard
pins as a heat sink and the direct soldering of the wires prevented the
burning from occurring again as there could be no loose connection
(compared to the oringinal) when using soldered connections.
Apparently the charring and melting was the result of a loose connector
and NOT a fault in the motherboard and NOT the poser supply unit.
