<< Evolved DNA stitches itself up
Could DNA have kick-started life on Earth instead of RNA?

PHILIP BALL
Researchers have managed to create bits of DNA that can stitch themselves
together without a helping hand from other molecules. By contrast, natural
DNA needs enzymes to stitch itself up, correct mutations, or make copies of
itself. >>
This is another 'pop and adapt' first life scenario.
A fluke pops ups (in this case the DNA with enzyme like behavior)) and begins
replicating - then and only then does adaptation to the environment play a
role.
And where was the DNA before? In a vacumn,? Waiting in the wings?
None of this makes a bit of sense. The steps to the first DNA were all in a
heat cycle. If during any one minute of that heat cycle, they were not
chemically adapted to withstanding that heat - they would be destroyed.
It doesn't matter a bit if they had enzyme like behavior or not - the heat
didn't care.
To ignore the environment during the prebiotic stage is silly. These scientists
should know better.
